During a debate following the Government statement on the establishment of the Office of Tax Simplification, Harriett asks if the initial appointments to lead the office for one year allows sufficient time to enable them to read the 11,000 pages of tax code. Harriett Baldwin (West Worcestershire) (Con): If those two excellent individuals are to work for an initial period of 12 months, will that be enough time for them to read the 11,000 pages of tax code applied by the previous Government? Mr Gauke: I always got the impression from John Whiting that he had already read the code-and Michael Jack may also know a little about it. I take my hon. Friend's point, but in 12 months they will be able to make a good start. | Hansard
