Harriett Baldwin and Sir Michael Spicer MP today handed in 5,804 signatures to a petition to the Secretary of State for Health, Alan Johnson MP.

The petition is part of the response to the consultation on Government proposals to restrict access to GP dispensaries.

Sir Michael Spicer today said,

"What is important is that the patient should be given as much choice as possible of where he or she collects his/her medicine. There should be fair competition between the medical practice, the high street chemist and the supermarket. This should take into account not just price and cost but the quality of service including the advice the patient receives."

Harriett Baldwin said,

"Harriett Baldwin said, "I welcome the petition from these three GP practices as it gives us a clear indication of the strength of feeling here in Worcestershire on this issue. If this change were to go through it would be yet another blow for patients living in rural areas near market towns. This is a draft law written by Whitehall bureaucrats who think one size fits all."
