Peter Ainsworth, Shadow Minister for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs will visit Upton-upon-Severn with Harriett Baldwin on April 28th to monitor progress on flood defences and other plans since last year's summer floods.

He will visit New Street to see the homes that are still uninhabitable. He will visit the Waterside to see the newly reopened pubs The Kings Head and the Swan. He will have a look at the Hanley Road and hear about progress on the Environment Agency's plans and the study being done by the County Council.

Separately, Harriett Baldwin has learned that the Environment Agency are pleased with the progress on plans for Upton's permanent flood defences and believe that funding for scheme could be available as early as 2009.

Harriett Baldwin said, "Sir Michael Spicer and I both welcome Peter Ainsworth's visit to Upton-upon-Severn. Following visits last year from Environment Minister Hilary Benn and David Cameron, the leader of the Conservative Party, residents and businesses in Upton should be reassured that the town will be high up on the priority list for any future spending on flood defences. I am also pleased that the County Council, which is responsible for the Hanley Road, is working closely with the Environment Agency on a feasibility study."
