West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has this week welcomed measures by farmers which help protect our local environment as well as making the most of precious agricultural land. The MP was speaking during a tour of Overbury Farms and a meeting with farm manager Jake Freestone. The two met to discuss how the latest EU budget settlement will affect subsidy payments. Harriett was taken on a tour of the farm and was shown how strips of land are used on the edge of fields to encourage wildlife and insects. Harriett commented: “I was interested to hear Jake’s feedback on how changes to the EU budget will directly affect the farm and its profitability. I have met with a lot of farmers and farming groups this year and I am ensuring that their feedback is passed on to Environment Secretary Owen Paterson. “I was also keen to find out more about ‘greening’ where land is allocated to improve the local eco-system such and creating homes for wildlife and insects.”
