West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin today welcomed measures which will help to reduce instances of domestic violence. And the MP also welcomed separate plans announced by Home Secretary Theresa May which will lead to stalking becoming a criminal offence. Both moves are part of a Government strategy to reduce instances of domestic violence. ‘Clare’s Law’ will give individuals the chance to check partners’ backgrounds to identify any history of domestic violence and it is being trialled in three counties. The stalking law will be introduced as part of an amendment to a current bill going through the House of Lords. Harriett commented: “Domestic violence is a continuing issue across the UK and we must do all we can to make people feel safe. “Clare’s Law is an important trial which will allow people to ensure they don’t find themselves trapped in violent relationships. “Similarly, stalking behaviour is something that we really must stamp out as it can leave people mentally- scarred. “The Government is taking steps to improve the way that men and women can be protected from potentially serious behaviour.”
