West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed a ‘budget for an aspiration nation’ unveiled by the Chancellor today. The Chancellor unveiled a series of measures to reward those who aspire to work hard and get on in life. It contained measures for those who want to own a home, get their first job, start a business or save for retirement. Harriett commented: “From next year, all income up to £10,000 will be tax-free for basic rate taxpayers, which will mean that someone takes home £700 more a year than they did in 2010. “Someone working full-time on the minimum wage will pay less than half the tax they did in 2010. “The NHS and schools will continue to be protected, and I want to see Worcestershire get a fairer funding deal. “It is a relief for local drivers that fuel duty has been frozen again, saving a Ford Focus driver £7 every time they fill their tank compared to Labour's plans. “Every business can take on a new employee and save £2,000 in jobs tax. “Publicans will also be pleased that beer duty is not going up by three pence per pint, it's falling by 1p instead. “There's a massive interest free loan for people who want to buy a home. “And it will be great news for those with young children when they can set £6,000 of the cost for each child care against tax. “Overall, I think that this budget offers practical help to put more money in people's pockets, while cutting the deficit by a third and keeping interest rates low.”
