A Malvern Primary school will be getting funds to repair broken windows following a long-running campaign by Harriett Baldwin MP.

The broken windows at Malvern Parish Primary make teaching difficult in extreme weather and Harriett agreed to back the school’s bid for money from the annual Condition Improvement Fund from the Department for Education.

Harriett met with head teacher Susan Parker in 2019 to discuss the issue and the MP has met with Education Ministers and even raised the issue in the House of Commons to secure support for the bid.

Harriett met with Education Secretary Gavin Williamson earlier this year and he agreed to allow officials to work with the school to make sure the bid was successful this year.

The money is part of a £483 million award confirmed today but Harriett was briefed by the Department ahead of the announcement and she rang the school’s head teacher to share the good news.

Harriett said:

“Each year, a number of local schools get funds to carry out urgent repairs and I shared the frustration of the teachers and governors at Malvern Parish Primary that their bids kept being rejected.

“After seeing the poor condition of the damaged windows first-hand, I committed to working closely with the school and the Department for Education to identify how the bid could be improved to get it over the line this year.

“I’m really pleased that this work has delivered a success and I rang the head teacher to tell her the good news.

“I visit many primary schools each year and tell each that I am happy to support their bids into this useful fund. I’ve got a couple more schools who have enlisted my help and I will continue to lobby central Government for the right funding to improve classrooms for every child in West Worcestershire.”
