Harriett Baldwin MP this week continued her campaign to support a new technology and innovation centre in Malvern after getting further Government support. The West Worcestershire MP made the call following a second letter of support from Science Minister David Willetts MP for an application to the Technology Strategy Board for funding. Harriett has been lobbying for financial backing for the proposed centre and she has encouraged local bodies to start planning for a full bid for Government funds. Harriett commented: “Over the last few weeks I have been working hard in Parliament to try and secure support for a technology centre based in Malvern. Malvern has a cluster of high tech businesses and a deep pool of scientific talent. “I have been speaking to local authority and business leaders following the announcement in the Comprehensive Spending Review of £200 million in government funding to be allocated to Technology and Innovation Centres from April 2011. I have been encouraged by the ministerial responses so far.” Harriett added: “Whilst there has been some disappointing news from QinetiQ regarding job losses, we must all help new businesses that want to start up or expand in the area. “I am confident that we can work together to build on Malvern’s strength in science and technology.”
