The Leader of the House, Sir George Young, has today confirmed that the floor debate on the RDR and the future of independent financial advisers will take place on November 29th (note this date has been changed since this release was first published). The start time will depend on other house business and full details will be confirmed as soon as they are available. Harriett Baldwin MP commented: “I have been campaigning for more than two years on this issue on behalf of IFAs in the West Worcestershire constituency and Mark Garnier MP and I are delighted that we have a chance to air the issues in the main chamber before the FSA makes its final recommendations at its next Board meeting on December 10th. “This is a huge milestone for the many thousands of IFAs across the country who fear their livelihoods will be ruined by the implementation of the Retail Distribution Review. It is also important to highlight the reduced access to financial advice for so many people, especially in rural areas. “I know that many of my colleagues are keen to participate in my debate and I would urge IFAs to contact their local MP to ask them to speak out on their behalf.”
