Harriett Baldwin, the Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, made a special visit to Upton upon Severn today, Saturday, to sign the Upton Flood Forum Petition in support of the Environmental Agency's plans for flood defences for the town. She said:

"I am really pleased to see that the £4.5 million plans now include major landscaping and regeneration of the waterfront. I have campaigned actively for permanent flood defences which I believe are essential to prevent the disaster of 2007 occurring again. Not only were the floods a traumatic experience for those whose homes and premises were flooded, but they also affected the number of visitors to the town."

She said she understood how important visitors were to the whole town's economy and the very existence of the shops and pubs that made Upton such an attractive town.

It is planned to hand the petition to Malvern Hills District Council and The Town Council as well as to Sir Michael Spicer MP.
