Harriett Baldwin has welcomed news that the Environment Agency has agreed to her suggestion that the works needed to remove the island and the gravel bar in the River Teme at Tenbury should be scheduled in 2009.

It cannot be done any earlier because the salmon spawning season is underway at the moment.

Harriett Baldwin said, "I am glad that the Environment Agency has agreed to schedule the work in 2009. It is still dependent on the funding being available from the maintenance budget. It also needs to be assessed by Natural England because the River Teme is a site of special scientific interest."

The Environment Agency is also in Tenbury today (October 20th) to assess further needs. Harriett Baldwin added, "I will, of course, continue to argue the long term case for proper flood defences for Tenbury."
