Harriett Baldwin will this week join Malvern Hills District Council and a Teme Valley business consortium in discussions to explore the possibility of bringing a powerful wireless broadband to the Teme Valley.

Cllr Phil Grove, Portfolio holder for Economic Development at Malvern Hills District Council and District Councillor for Tenbury will join Harriett Baldwin, council officers and local businesses at a meeting this Thursday, December 11th in Malvern.

Harriett Baldwin said, "There are businesses in rural Worcestershire today that depend on the internet. Broadband speeds are getting faster and more powerful all the time. Business requirements are also growing. Tenbury and the Teme Valley are in a Rural Regeneration Zone and I have already discussed this initiative with Advantage West Midlands. However, it is also possible that this could go ahead without any taxpayer subsidy. The important thing is to explore whether the fast broadband connections that already come to Malvern as part of the Science and Technology Corridor can be used to transmit to the Teme Valley."

Cllr Phil Grove said, "It is essential that we look at all available technology which will help businesses in the Teme Valley in the present economic climate"
