West Worcestershire Conservatives held their Annual Dinner at the beautiful medieval house of Birtsmorton Court last Friday evening.

Guest speaker was Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Caroline Spelman MP. The event was a sell-out and was also attended by Sir Michael Spicer MP, Philip Bradbourn MEP and Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Harriett Baldwin.

Mrs Spelman spoke of the millions of pounds of expense to the taxpayer of John Prescott's departure, since the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister had now been renamed Ministry of Communities and Local Government.

Mrs Spelman also highlighted that the Conservative Party is the only major party committed to scrapping the unelected and unaccountable regional assemblies that are making decisions about Worcestershire with no accountability to the voters.

Mrs Spelman emphasised her support of our farmers and her support for the WI campaign to help farmers get a fair price for their milk.

She said "Farming must remain a priority for our country - we do not want to rely on other countries to supply our food."
