Andrew Lansley, Shadow Secretary of State for Health will visit Malvern Hospital on Wednesday, April 18th 2007 and also the Seaford Court site for the potential new hospital for Malvern.

Mr. Lansley will be given a tour of the hospital by Matron Lin Ingles. Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Harriett Baldwin; Paul Tuthill and Ralph Madden, both members of Malvern Town Council; Conservative Group Leader on Malvern Hills District Council Serena Croad; Chairman of the League of Friends Pat Merrick and will also join the tour.

Harriett Baldwin said, "I am delighted that Andrew Lansley has accepted our invitation to visit Malvern hospital and see for himself the business case for a new community hospital."

Serena Croad said, "Malvern Hills District Council is very keen to work with the PCT and ultimately with national government to secure funding for a new hospital for Malvern. We recognise the achievement of Wychavon District Council in helping to provide a new hospital in Pershore."

Andrew Lansley this week discovered in the answer to a parliamentary question that 85p in every £1 spent by the government since 1997 on new hospitals has been spent in constituencies with a Labour MP.

Commenting on the figures, Mr Lansley said: "Four in every five of Labour's new hospitals have been built in the constituencies of their own MPs. Meanwhile, ministers are holding secret meetings with Labour Party officials to target up to sixty hospital cutbacks on the constituencies of Conservative and Lib Dem MPs."
