MP briefed on Hanley expansion plans

12th February 2020

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin was invited to Hanley Castle High School to tour the school and hear of plans to expand and build further new classrooms.

The MP was given a tour of the school by two year seven pupils – Florence Findlater and Arthur Stonehouse – together with headteacher Lindsey Cooke, including visits to the language department where Harriett took part in an impromptu French lesson.

Since Harriett was first elected in 2010, the successful secondary school has added a new science block and a new sixth form block.

The school is expanding to take on more pupils and is now planning further new classrooms after it was awarded £1.5 million of funds thanks to new housing development.

Harriett commented: “I regularly visit Hanley Castle High School and it is a great pleasure to chat to the pupils and hear about what they like about their school.

“Everyone is excited about the plans for new classrooms as the school continues to offer a great education for local children.

“I also had a constructive conversation with Lindsey about the plans to level up the school’s budget for next September and I have agreed to make representations about non-teaching staff pension with the Department for Education.

“I look forward to seeing the construction work getting underway and hope to see new classrooms in operation very soon.”
