Charity Drivers
Harriett Baldwin has launched a petition on the Number 10 Downing Street website calling for the Government to raise the rate that charities can reimburse drivers from 40p to 50p per mile for fuel costs.
The full wording of the petition is:
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to ask HMRC to raise the rate at which they permit charities to reimburse volunteer drivers from 40p per mile to 50p per mile for their fuel costs
Many elderly and vulnerable people rely on local charities with volunteer drivers to take them to hospital appointments. At the moment, charities can reimburse volunteers up to 40p per mile. Because this is no longer a true reflection of the cost of driving, some volunteers are declining to give hospital appointment lifts to the elderly and to those without transport. An increase to 50p would allow them to continue to volunteer.
