Speaking up for local business
Harriett Baldwin speaks up for business at Conservative Party Conference
Harriett
Baldwin, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for West Worcestershire spoke out
earlier this month at Conservative Party conference in Manchester on behalf of
local small businesses.
In the main debate on the economy, she asked the
following question: "I was called yesterday by a small business in West
Worcestershire. They are in the construction industry and have a full order
book. Their bank is not prepared to give them credit to expand. Another small
local start-up business cannot find a bank who will take them on. If elected,
what would a Conservative government do on Day One to help small businesses get
the banking services they need to help the economy grow out of the recession?"
The answer given by Baroness Noakes, Shadow Treasury Minister, was that there
would be a £50 billion national loan guarantee scheme to help small businesses
get credit.
Harriett supports local business start-up
Harriett
visited Steritrox, of Birlingham, near Pershore who have developed
decontamination units that could save lives in Worcestershire hospitals by
killing superbugs such as MRSA and viruses such as swine flu within an hour.
Harriett said: "It is very exciting to see a Worcestershire business come up
with this ingenious invention that could make such an enormous difference to
people’s experience of hospital, not only locally but across the world.
C.difficile and MRSA continue to be real problems and real worries for our acute
trust and I sincerely hope that this business, in the middle of harsh economic
times, is as successful as one would expect."

Harriett welcomes local councils' decision to request extension to housing plans
Standing
on fields in Lower Broadheath near Elgar's birthplace, Harriett Baldwin said:
"I welcome the decision the three councils have made to request an extension to
help them further their technical analysis. With a General Election due by next
June at the latest, there is a chance that local people will have a chance to
vote for an alternative to the government’s top-down, Stalinist approach to
housing numbers." There is still an opportunity to participate in the ongoing
consultation process. For more information on the new timetable and on
upcoming public exhibitions, follow this link:
