Harriett Baldwin

Harriett Baldwin has been selected by the Conservatives to fight West Worcestershire at the next General Election.

It is a great honour to be chosen to follow Sir Michael Spicer, who has worked tirelessly for local people since 1974. I live locally in the Teme Valley with my husband Jim and our three children. We hope to meet many of you in person before the next General Election.

Donations to political parties

Acceptance of donations

Registered political parties are only legally allowed to accept donations of more than £200 from 'permissible donors'. Permissible donors are defined by the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act (PPERA) 2000 as:
an individual registered on a UK electoral register
a UK registered political party
a UK registered company
a UK registered trade union
a UK registered building society
a UK registered limited liability partnership
a UK registered friendly/building society
a UK based unincorporated association

Political parties are prohibited from accepting donations of more than £200 other than from the above sources. Any donations of more than £200 from impermissible sources must be returned, and donations from unidentifiable sources cannot be accepted.

For a full report on who can donate, please see www.electoralcommission.org.uk

Donation reporting

Political parties are required to make four quarterly returns to us each year, giving details of cash and non-cash donations received by the party headquarters, and by accounting units of the party if it has them. Each donation report must provide the information necessary to prove that the donor is a permissible source or has been returned. Details of the following donations must be included in the report:

all donations of more than £1,000 accepted by a party accounting unit any impermissible donations of more than £200 received by the party any donations of more than £200 from unidentifiable sources received by the party.

During a UK general election period, parties contesting the election are required to submit weekly reports giving details of any donations of more than £5,000 received by the party.

Section 62 donations

A number of political parties submit reports of donations received under section 62 of the PPERA. Section 62 donations are aggregated donations that are made to different branches of a party. An individual donor might make a number of donations to different sections of a party which do not individually breach the reporting threshold, but which in total are of more than £5,000. The party headquarters therefore aggregates any such donations and reports them to us as 'section 62 donations.'
