Talks over Tesco plans 'productive' says MP

New West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin today described her meeting with Tesco as ‘productive’ following the submission of a planning application for a new store in Tenbury.
Malvern Hills District Council has not validated the application at this stage, requesting further environmental studies.
Harriett said: “Tesco representatives gave me a thorough overview of their plans and I was able to build a clearer picture of their proposals and the potential impact on Tenbury.
“They explained that they sought to bring a new store to the community after learning that many local people travel to Ludlow, Leominster or Kidderminster to do their large weekly shop.
“I have been informed that the 15,000 square foot shop would mainly sell food and groceries. There would be no Post Office or pharmacy. The 180 jobs would be both full and part time.
“Personally I will continue to shop at the local family-owned businesses but I can see that some people choose to do otherwise – with its impact on both the local economy and the environment.
“I am pleased that I have been able to start this dialogue with Tesco and I will be holding a surgery in Tenbury on May 28th at 5pm when I am sure this issue will be discussed in more detail.”
