Save General Election Night campaign succeeds in West Worcestershire - Baldwin

22nd January 2010

Harriett Baldwin, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for West Worcestershire today welcomed news from the Electoral Commission that West Worcestershire is one of the 325 constituencies that has confirmed that vote-counting will start on General Election Night. Mid-Worcestershire and Worcester City are yet to decide.

Harriett Baldwin said, “I am delighted that the West Worcestershire count will take place immediately. The 2010 General Election will be momentous, with the first real chance of a change of government for years. Apart from the security problems storing the ballot boxes overnight, an immediate count is better for democracy. Worcester City is a real battleground seat and has yet to confirm about count timings. With other key marginals like Westmorland and Lonsdale definitely not counting until the day after polling day, there is a very real chance that we will not know who runs the country until late on Friday. In a 24/7 Western democracy, that’s potentially very damaging.”
