Rural communities win £3 billion affordable house boost

27th June 2018

Local authorities and housing associations will be able to access a £3 billion fund to help to deliver 23,000 new affordable homes.

The announcement was welcomed by West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin who visited a popular affordable homes scheme in Great Witley earlier in the month.

The fund is part of a national £9 billion Affordable Housing Programme which will help to deliver new housing inside and outside London and local authorities will be able to bid to access funding to deliver local projects.

Harriett commented: “Over the last year, the Government has outlined a series of measures to fix the broken housing market and, in particular, to help young people achieve the ambition to own their own home.

“The development is Great Witley is a great example of affordable housing being delivered in a sympathetic way and I would like to see more projects like these getting underway soon.

“This announcement is particularly good news for Malvern Hills and Wychavon District Councils who will be able to access this support to build more affordable homes to help younger people and key workers to enjoy home ownership.”
