MP Starts Consultation on Police White Paper

26th July 2010

West Worcestershire MP Harriet Baldwin today announced she has been liaising with local police chiefs over the Home Office white paper.

The MP attended the meeting as part of an attempt to better understand the challenges facing the county’s police force.

Harriett said: “I work closely with the police to get an idea of the challenges they face on a day to day basis and to communicate concerns from constituents.

“Once the details of today’s white paper are digested I expect I will have further discussions with both the police and the county council. The objective of the changes is to improve communications between local police and local people.

“There are also some clear savings to be made at a national level and too much bureaucracy that prevents police spending time visibly on the beat.”

Harriett highlighted drug abuse problems across West Worcestershire in her maiden speech to the House of Commons.

She added: “I was keen to discuss the local drug abuse problems with the police and get their perspective on this issue. I will also be spending more time with police in Malvern to get their view from the streets.”
