MP joins WI for centenary celebrations

22nd June 2018

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin joined members of Worcestershire Women’s Institute marking their 100th anniversary.

The county federation is celebrating it centenary this year and Harriett met with local members at the popular WI stand at the Royal Three Counties Show.

The MP was presented with messages from members as part of the Institute’s campaigning on climate change and the reduction of dependence on single use plastics.

Harriett commented: “The county Women’s Institute is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and I made sure I paid my regular visit to their marquee and to chat to members.

“The campaign to encourage us all to use less plastic is commendable but any of us who have try to ‘give up plastic’ know just how hard it is.

“Their enthusiastic efforts to lobby policy makers and to share the messages amongst members prove that the WI is still a force to be reckoned with.

“As the Worcestershire Federation was founded the same year that some women were given the vote, I’m also hoping members of the WI will be at the Malvern Hills EqualiTea – it’s fitting that they join the celebrations too.”
