MP asks Minister for answers on Planning Strategy

5th July 2010

MP Harriett Baldwin today called for answers from a Local Government Minister about next steps for councils while the Regional Spatial Strategy is being abolished.

Speaking in a debate last week on the Regional Spatial Strategy, she asked for clarification on plans to remove Worcester as an area identified for growth – and remove the threat of massive housing imposition.

And she took the opportunity to highlight Lower Broadheath and the threat of a 4,000 house planning application by Bloor Homes still faced by residents.

Harriett said:
“I thank the Government for moving so quickly to send letters to councils explaining that they can take the intention to abolish regional spatial strategies into account as a material consideration, as that has certainly greatly relieved local communities.”

She added:
“However, will the abolition of the regional spatial strategy automatically abolish the characterisation of Worcester as a new growth point and what guidance can ministers give to Malvern Hills District Council about speculative developer applications that predate the change of government?”
