Harriett: ‘Time for Change for Rural Communities’

19th April 2010

Conservative candidate Harriett Baldwin today described her meeting with shadow Farming Minister Jim Paice as ‘very positive news’ for the farming community.

Harriett said: “I was delighted to meet with local farmers and Jim Paice, to discuss the challenges facing our rural communities which have endured 13 years being treated as second class citizens.

“It is clear that the rural workers feel let down Labour mismanagement and marginalisation.”

Harriett met Jim Paice at Goodmans farm in Great Witley, suppliers of turkeys and geese to a swathe of celebrity chefs and showbiz customers.

He set out the Conservative agenda to reward British farmers. Plans include reducing the burden of regulation, honest food labelling, a supermarket ombudsman and reformation of the Common Agricultural Policy.

Harriett commented: “Everyone who attended today was encouraged by our plans and there is a real desire for change across the region.

“I intend to put our rural communities high on the Conservative agenda and ensure a fairer deal for our vital local businesses.”

Harriett is challenging for the seat of West Worcestershire – one of the largest constituencies in the country.

Harriett added: “People across West Worcestershire are looking for a local champion who knows the area and is willing to stand up for them in and act with integrity at all times. Only a vote for the Conservatives will end Labour’s 13 years and disastrous administration.”
