Harriett: ‘Put Patients First to help NHS Cure Itself'

16th March 2010

Harriett Baldwin today called for action to defend the NHS from unnecessary reorganisation.

She will be at the Board Meeting of the Primary Care Trust on Wednesday 17th March with other health activists to protest at the current rushed proposals to abolish the Worcestershire Mental Health Trust and combine it with community hospitals.

Harriett said: “The Conservatives have pledged to put patients’ interests first when helping the NHS to give the best possible service for Britain.

“We understand the pressures frontline staff face but we can’t go on with an NHS that puts targets before patients and is in a constant state of organisational change.”

In Worcestershire, Harriett has an impressive track record battling against the imposed re-organisation of the local NHS trusts and championing local hospitals.

Harriett is standing in the West Worcestershire constituency aiming to follow on from retiring MP Sir Michael Spicer who represented the community in Westminster for 36 years. The new West Worcestershire constituency has three community hospitals – Malvern, Pershore and Tenbury Wells.

She added: “People across West Worcestershire are looking for a local champion who knows the area and is willing to stand up for them and act with integrity at all times. Only a vote for the Conservatives will end Labour’s 13 years of endless reorganisations of the NHS.”
