Conservative vote will return housing plans to local people

13th April 2010

Voters in West Worcestershire were today offered the choice to vote Conservative and end misery and blight from central Government planners.

Speaking at a public meeting at Elgar’s birthplace village, Lower Broadheath, a former Conservative housing minister outlined plans to return planning to local authority control.

Sir George Young, who until today was Shadow Leader of the House of Commons spoke to voters at a meeting convened by West Worcestershire Conservative candidate Harriett Baldwin and reassured them that the end to imposed housing could be just weeks away.

Sir George outlined plans to introduce Statutory Instruments to parliament overhauling the current planning process if a Conservative government is elected on May 6.

Strategic planning responsibilities will then be returned to local authorities and county and district councils will be able to re-assess house building plans.

Welcoming the news, Harriett Baldwin commented: “Many local people are very concerned by the threatened imposition of massive tranches of new houses across our beautiful rural countryside.

“I hope that Sir George Young’s words have gone some way to reassuring voters that action will follow as soon as a Conservative government is elected.

“There is now a clear plan to end this nightmare for many thousands of people across West Worcestershire.

“Only a change of government will bring these imposed housing targets to a halt and allow local people to decide where new homes should go, not Whitehall”
